Samsung Electronics is hosting a month-long digital technology seminar this month that aims to educate people about the advantages of its new Neo QLED TVs.

If you think that sounds a bit desperate, don’t. Samsung’s tech seminars are an annual event that has taken place for the past ten years. This year’s edition began on March 31 and will run until May 8, and the company is focused on explaining the underlying Mini-LED technology that powers its premium Neo QLED models.

The company debuted its Neo QLED TVs at the virtual Consumer Electronics Show in January, and has already started taking pre-orders in the U.K. The Neo QLED TVs are Samsung’s most advanced ever made, incorporating thousands of miniaturised LED backlights that serve to create more local dimming zones. Samsung said this results in much better brightness and contrast and enables the most accurate images ever seen on its commercial TVs.

The Samsung Neo QLED TVs also feature a more advanced “Quantum Processor” with a local power distribution function that sends more power to the brighter parts of the picture and less to the darker parts, plus a sensor that helps to adjust the brightness and contrast according to the ambient lighting conditions in the room. According to Samsung, it all adds up to a far better picture no matter if it’s in 4K or 8K resolution.

Samsung said that because of the COVID-19 pandemic this year’s seminar will be entirely virtual, but it said that numerous industry and media experts are expected to attend the event.

Samsung's 2021 Neo QLED range includes its 8K flagship QN900A, which starts at a cool £5,999 for the smallest 65-inch model, rising to £12,000 for the 85-inch version. The Samsung QN95A is the company’s premium 4K model this year, priced at £2,199 for the 55-inch model and rising to £5,999 for the largest 85-inch screen. “We are happy to inform industry experts of the outstanding image quality and diverse service of Neo QLED through tech seminars,” said Seong Il-Kyung, vice president of Samsung’s Video Display business.

Besides the new Mini-LED display technology, Samsung is also touting the availability of tons of free content on its Neo QLED TVs this year. Earlier this week, the company revealed that its popular TV Plus streaming service, which brings free access to channels such as CNN, Rakuten TV, the Comedy Channel and Action Movies, as well as news and sports channels, will launch in new regions this year including the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, Portugal and India. Samsung TV Plus was already available in the U.K., the U.S., Australia, Brazil and Mexico.

Meanwhile, Samsung said its TV Plus smartphone app will also be made available to users in the U.K., as well as Canada, Germany and India. The app first launched in the U.S. last year and makes it possible to watch all of the Samsung TV Plus content on Samsung’s smartphones, in addition to the big screen. Samsung said the app will be made available on its Galaxy Note20, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy S10 smartphones later this month.

“The growth of Samsung TV Plus has everything to do with the quality of the content, the ease of access and the multi-screen experiences offered,” said Sang Kim, SVP of Product & Marketing for Samsung Electronics. “We are working hard to deliver more to our customers wherever they are – including our mobile offering.”
