Philips has launched some new additions to its mid-range series of LCD TVs, and they’re rolling out now in Europe and the U.K. The new 4K TVs all feature Philips’ Ambilight technology and some of them come with DTD Play-Fi for wireless audio.

FlatPanelsHD said Philips has announced four new models, starting with the PUS8505 (pictured) at the upper end, followed by the PUS8105, PUS7805 and PUS7505 models. All four models are available in a range of sizes, from 43-inches up to 70-inches.

The best of the bunch is the PUS8505, which is priced at £999 for the largest 70-inch version and runs the Android TV platform and brings access to a wide range of streaming apps including Netflix and YouTube. It also features DTS Play-Fi, which is a system that lets users connect compatible speakers to the TV wirelessly. Alternatively, users can connect the TV to a DTS-powered multiroom system, Philips said.

The other models all run the Philips' Saphi platform, which has its own fairly comprehensive selection of apps, including most of the ‘essentials’ such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

All of the TVs feature Philips’ trademark Ambilight, which is a mood lighting system that throws up colourful lighting effects around the screen and looks especially cool in darker rooms. They also support the Dolby Vision high dynamic range format for enhanced images, and Dolby Atmos, for more immersive surround sound.

In addition, FlatPanelsHD reported that Philips will soon add some higher-end models to its LCD lineup this year, including its new PUS9005 series that will re-introduce 4-sided Ambilight. This feature can be further extended with Philips Hue, which is a personal wireless lighting system that enables fine-tune control of lighting in the living room.

The new 9 Series TVs will also come with an integrated speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins, the British audio technology firm that recently said it plans to expand its partnership with Philips. We can expect to hear more about Philips’ new 9 Series TVs at its online event in September. The company had planned to launch its latest models at the IFA show in Berlin, but pulled out of that event due to coronavirus fears.

IFA itself will go ahead anyway, but most of the event will take place online as it’s only allowing a limited number of people to attend.
