Philips Scoops 5 Prestigious Design Awards for its 2019 TVs

TP Vision is enjoying a moment in the limelight after three of its premier 2019 Philips TVs scooped a total of five awards last week from two of Europe’s most prestigious design competitions.

The TVs include the previously unannounced Philips OLED+934, which scooped two awards from Red Dot and IF Design Awards. The awards were given in recognition of its outstanding design, with the main criteria for consideration being innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility.

TP Vision still hasn’t officially announced the Philips OLED+934, but it was spotted by a German blogger last week after details were posted on IF Design Awards website ahead of the competition awards announcement. It appears to be a stunning TV in any case, and is presumably the successor to Philip’s earlier OLED903 TV that stood out for its soundbar, which was designed by the British audio firm Bowers & Wilkins.

The OLED+934 also sports a newly engineered Bowers & Wilkins soundbar that TP Vision is marketing as one of its best features. The soundbar is said to be covered in a custom-made, acoustically transparent cloth designed by Danish company Kvadrat. It’s fashioned in a trapezoid shape that TP Vision says is designed to angle the speakers for better sound dispersion into the room.

TP Vision hasn’t indicated when the Philips OLED+934 might be launched, but a September announcement at the IFA show in Berlin, Germany, seems like a solid bet.

Also recognized with two awards (from Red Dot and IF Design Awards) is the Philips OLED 854, which was first announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January. The OLED 854 sports a minimalist, super-slim frame and sits on a dark chrome T-bar swivel stand that helps to give the impression that the screen floats in the air.

Last but not least, the Philips 9104 LCD TV designed by Danish artisans from Georg Jensen was recognised by IF Design Awards. The TV’s unique design is comprised of a black-brushed aluminium bezel on three sides, with a glossy, polished metal bottom side. It sits on two polished, silvery-blue coloured “blade feet” that are said to recreate the artistry of Georg Jensen, who was one of Europe’s most famous silverware designers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

“We continue to offer the best picture and sound performance through our ongoing partnership with Bowers & Wilkins while still offering minimalist, functional designs using real materials executed with real finesse,” said TP Vision’s chief designer Rod White. “I believe our co-operation with our leading European brand partners is delivering truly stand-out products into a market where our competitors struggle to differentiate their product.”
