Xiaomi set to launch new Mini-LED TVs with 144Hz

China’s Xiaomi appears to be preparing for the global launch of its Xiaomi TV S Mini-LED televisions, which went on sale in the company’s home nation earlier this year.

The Xiaomi TV S Mini-LED models will be offered in three sizes – 55-inches, 65-inches and 75-inches, and they feature 4K Mini-LED panels with a speedy 144Hz refresh rate, which should make them a decent and affordable option for video games fans.

It’s notable that the number of local dimming zones varies according to the size, with the largest model said to have 512 dimming zones, while the smaller two have 392 and 308 zones, respectively. According to the TVs’ specifications on Xiaomi’s website, the display brightness will adapt automatically based on the ambient lighting in the room, helping to optimize the picture while limiting power consumption.

Each of the TVs is said to come with three HDMI 2.1 ports, enabling Variable Refresh Rates and Auto Low-Latency Mode to ensure a seamless gaming experience. AMD’s FreeSync Premium is also supported, while the company says the Mini-LED displays will cover 94% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and Dolby Vision IQ for HDR is also onboard.

In terms of audio, Xiaomi says the new Xiaomi TV S Mini-LED models feature an integrated 25-watt speaker system with Dolby Atmos.

The TVs are powered by the Google TV operating system, which provides access to a wealth of streaming applications and games, and they also feature the Xiaomi TV+ service, which offers access to a selection of live channels. It’s not clear if any local applications will be available in specific markets, but Chromecast is said to be available, as well as Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity.

To power all of these capabilities, the Xiaomi TVs have been equipped with a powerful quad-core A73 processor.

There’s no word yet on a launch date for the new TVs, but the fact they’re listed on Xiaomi’s global website suggests they will be available within the coming weeks.

As for pricing, that also remains to be seen, though if use the Chinese retail prices as a rough guide, we can expect them to fall squarely within the “affordable” range, as is common with Chinese TV brands.

In China, the Xiaomi TV S Mini-LED models are priced at 2,399 RMB, 2,999 RMB and 3,999 RMB, respectively, for the 55-, 65- and 75-inch models, which works out at around £272, £340 and £454.
