Xiaomi confirms European launch of 100-inch Xiaomi Max TV next year

China’s Xiaomi is following the likes of TCL, Samsung, Hisense and other TV makers with the launch of a 100-inch 4K LCD TV, set to go on sale in Europe next year for the low price of just 2,000 euros, reports say.

A story posted by the German language publication 4KFilme.de says Xiaomi’s newest and largest TV so far will be called the Xiaomi TV Max 100, signifying that it will indeed be fitted with a 100-inch VA LCD panel made by BOE, though these details are not officially confirmed.

According to 4KFilme.de, Xiaomi has confirmed quite a few details about the Xiaomi TV Max 100. For instance, it says the TV will come with a 4K resolution 120Hz panel that’s able to crank up support to 144Hz. In addition, there will be two HDMI 2.1 ports that support Variable Refresh Rates at 120Hz, Dolby Vision HDR, HDR10+, Filmmaker Mode, LED local dimming, Dolby Atmos sound and a special 1080p at 240Hz mode for super-slick gaming at lower resolutions.

WiFi 6 is also available and the TV will run the Android TV operating system, meaning pre-installed apps like Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video will be at your fingertips. It will also support AirPlay 2 and Chromecast.

Xiaomi said the Max 100 TV will go on sale in European markets “next year” but did not reveal an exact launch date.

Super-Sized TVs

The launch of the Xiaomi TV continues a trend towards larger screen sizes that appears to be accelerating in the TV industry. A few years ago, TV manufacturers began pumping out massive 98-inch televisions left, right and centre, thanks to TCL and its display-making organisation CSOT, which found a way to manufacture the enormous panels at a more affordable cost.

That prompted Hisense to step things up a notch with a slightly bigger 100-inch model, based on a BOE panel. And that’s the reason why it’s likely BOE is supplying the panel for the Xiaomi TV Max 100.

4KFilme.de says Xiaomi's new TV will go on sale for just 2,000 euros, with an 85-inch variant of the same TV, presumably to be called the Xiaomi TV Max 85 (though this wasn’t reported) priced at 1,300 euros.

If the price given by 4KFilme.de is true, it would make the Xiaomi TV Max perhaps the most affordable 100-inch TV money can buy, comparing nicely with the 100-inch Hisense U7KQ, which retails for 2,600, although that model notably features Mini-LED local dimming zones that are not found on the Max.

TCL also sells the slightly smaller 98-inch P745 LCD TV without local dimming for around 2,000 euros, as well as higher-end 98-inch models with Mini-LED dimming. Xiaomi has its own Mini-LED TVs too, including the recently announced Xiaomi TV S, which maxes out at 75-inches.
