Sony is following the example of Asus, Dell and MSI by offering customers who buy one of its OLED monitors protection against burn-in for three years.
The company says it’s extending the InZone M10S OLED monitor’s limited warranty to three years to cover any damage caused by burn-in. The same extended warranty also applies to the new M9 II LCD monitor that was launched in September, alongside the M10S.
Although improvements in OLED panel design and energy efficiency gains have decreased the risk of damage resulting from burn-in, some consumers are still worried by the possibility. That’s especially true for OLED gaming monitors, where certain on-screen elements are essentially frozen in place when users are playing games.
Monitor brands have responded to these concerns by offering warranties that cover damage caused by burn-in. In the last year, Asus, Dell, MSI and LG have all sought to reassure consumers who buy monitors equipped with WOLED and QD-OLED panels.
Sony has now matched those commitments, saying that the limited warrant card that comes with the Inzone M10S has now been extended to three years from the original one year duration it covered. OLED burn-in, which was not previously covered, is now.
The announcement was made by Sony America but the company later confirmed that it’s extending its warranties globally, so it doesn’t just apply to monitors purchased in the U.S. and Canada. No matter where you buy one, Sony has your back.
The biggest brand that still doesn’t provide warranty protection against burn-in is Samsung Electronics, though it has made an exception for its 32-inch Odyssey G8 monitor.
