In addition to announcing its newest TVs, Sony has taken the wraps off a number of new audio products, including a 5.1-channel soundbar system, a 3.1.2-channel soundbar and a pair of wireless surround speakers, featuring seamless compatibility with its Bravia televisions.
The new products add to an existing Sony home audio lineup that’s headed up by last year’s Bravia Theatre Quad wireless Dolby Atmos speaker system. It also sells the Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 9 and Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 8 soundbars. Those devices were all announced last year and will continue to be sold throughout 2025.
Other devices in Sony’s sound system lineup include the A3000 Dolby Atmos soundbar, and the Sony S-series HT-200, S400 and S100F soundbars, which also carry over into this year.
The most powerful new audio offering announced today is the Sony Bravia Theater System 6, which the company explained is a 5.1-channel system that can output a maximum of 1,000-watts of sound. It’s made up of a central soundbar, a wireless subwoofer and two surround-sound speakers that are meant to be placed at strategic locations in the living room, all connected via a wireless amplifier.
Sony said the Theatre System 6 is capable of outputting both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound, which will be enhanced by its Multi Stereo technology to create a more immersive audioscape. It’s powered by Sony’s S-Force Pro Front Surround and Vertical Surround Engine, and features Sony Voice Zoom 3 technology, which helps to enhance the clarity of spoken dialogue so you can hear it clearly over the noise of explosions and whatnot. But it only works when paired with a Sony Bravia TV.
The system supports Bluetooth wireless connectivity, so there’s no need to lay ugly cables all over the living room floor or hammer them into the walls.
If you’re after something that’s easier to set up, the Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 6 might be just the ticket. It’s a compact 3.1.2-channel soundbar with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support, featuring a dedicated centre speaker plus two up-firing speakers either side, helping to convey height effects and create a more immersive soundscape.
Along with the soundbar, you’ll also get a wireless subwoofer to enhance the bass, and the company’s S-Force Pro Front Surround and Vertical Surround Engine technologies are also on board, along with Voice Zoom 3, but remember, you’ll need a Bravia TV to utilise that feature.
Its Bluetooth connectivity means that the Bravia Theatre Bar 6 can also act as a simple wireless speaker for listening to music, when not watching TV.
The last piece of kit announced today was the Sony Bravia Theatre Rear 8, which is a pair of dedicated surround sound speakers designed to be paired with the company’s soundbars to enhance the listening effects.
The new speakers have a rounded design that matches the aesthetics of Sony’s existing Theatre Bar 8 and 9 soundbars, which are more powerful than the Theatre Bar 6. It also sports a quality-looking fabric grille.
According to Sony, the Theatre Rear 8 speakers come with a four-channel amplifier that provides a power boost over the older Sony RS3S surround sound speakers they’re going to replace. They also support 360 Spatial Sound Mapping, which helps to boost the immersion by using special AI algorithms to enhance sound placement.
Like with its TVs, Sony hasn’t yet said when the new sound products will go on sale, and nor has it mentioned any prices.
