Apple iPhone users who own a Sky Glass TV are getting a key feature that has long been missing thanks to a timely update that arrived just before Christmas.
From today, Sky Glass users will be able to use their iPhone, iPad or Mac computers to stream content from those devices or display their own photos and videos on their TVs.
Unfortunately, Android smartphone users still lack the same capability as there’s no update for them, but there are a few other features coming to Sky Glass and also Sky Stream, which is a Wi-Fi device that provides access to the Sky TV experience.
The new features include the addition of a “next episode” button for Sky series such as Dune: Prophecy and Day of the Jackal, similar to the one that appears on Netflix’s series. That’s just perfect for anyone planning on doing some festive binge watching during the holidays.
In addition, Sky’s playlists are also being revamped. Sky said users are getting the option to add the names of specific actors and actresses, so they can quickly create a list of all of the movies and shows that person has previously starred in. There are also new avatars for playlists, including TV stars including Jamie Redknapp from A League of Their Own, and kids’ favourites like Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig.
If you often find yourself visiting a specific channel, you’ll also get the option to add it to your home screen and even assign it a custom number on your remote control. And if you struggle to recall the channels you frequent, you can refresh your home page and the favourites section will be updated with the channels and shows you’ve been watching the most.
Sky also announced a couple of updates for those with existing subscriptions atop of Sky Glass and Sky Stream. For instance, if you pay £5 to be able to skip ads, you’ll be able to use a dedicated button on the remote to do so. That’s instead of fast-forwarding.
Last but not least, Sky is adding support for HD Audio on the Amazon Music Sky app, in order to make full use of Sky Glass’s integrated soundbar. Of course, you’ll still need a subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited, which currently costs £10.99 per month.
