Samsung Electronics has announced not one, not two or even three, but five new monitors just ahead of CES 2025.
The new monitors include a number of new Odyssey gaming displays, and they’ll be part of Samsung’s wider exhibition of products at CES 2025 when it opens its doors on January 6. There’s also a new M9 smart monitor, plus a larger 37-inch Viewfinity S8 being revealed.
Beginning with the Samsung M90SF, this is said to be the company’s most advanced smart monitor so far, improving on the existing M8 by introducing an OLED panel and enhanced AI support. It’s still the same size, at 32-inches, and features Samsung’s 4K AI Upscaling Pro technology to improve resolution quality, as well as a built-in 4K camera for video chatting and so on.
Other features include the Tizen OS Home edition, which provides access to various streaming apps, plus the newly included AI Picture Optimiser tech. The role of this is pretty self-explanatory, helping to automatically fine-tune the on-screen images based on the type of content being watched, such as fast-paced action movies or stationary documents.
As for the two new Samsung Odyssey gaming monitors, these are the Samsung UHD G8 and QHD G6, which both come with QD-OLED panels and are said to provide several improvements over last year’s models.
In all honesty, the new Samsung Odyssey G8 isn’t going to reinvent the wheel, but what it does do is bring the 4K resolution, 240Hz graphics of last year’s 32-inch model into a smaller 27-inch frame, laying claim to be the first display of that size to bear such powerful specifications.
As for the Samsung Odyssey G6, this comes in the same 27-inch size as last year’s predecessor, but it boosts the refresh rate to an impressive 500Hz. Other features include VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 picture technology, support for AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync, and response times of 0.03 milliseconds.
There’s also a brand new addition to the Odyssey lineup with the debut of the Samsung Odyssey 3D, which carries the model name G90XF. It’s a 27-inch gaming monitor that is said to offer a “3D experience without 3D glasses”. It does this thanks to the inclusion of a lenticular lens that can be connected to the front of the display, and a front stereo camera. Words do not really do the device much justice, as the experience really needs to be seen to be appreciated, but according to Samsung it has the unique ability to transform 2D images into “realistic 3D scenes”, and it will surely be one of the most talked about monitors on show at this year’s CES.
The final monitor on show at CES will be the new 37-inch Viewfinity S8, which is more of a general purpose display, designed for everyday use. It was previously only available in 27-inch and 32-inch models, and with the increased size, the 4K 16:9 aspect ratio display offers 34% more screen estate than last year’s largest model. That might make it an interesting option for those who like to keep lots of windows open on their desktop, or if someone likes to sit a little further back from their screen.
Samsung said the new Viewfinity display also comes with an “Ergonomic Workplace Display” certification from TUV Rheinland, which certifies its immersive and efficient nature, and an “Intelligent Eye Care” award, ensuring reduced eye strain when it’s being used for extended periods of time.
Samsung hasn’t yet said anything about pricing or availability of the new monitors, but we hope to hear more next week.
