Samsung's S95F QD-OLED and The Frame Pro TVs launch in USA

Samsung Electronics says its flagship 2025 TV, the Samsung S95F, is now on sale in the USA, alongside an upgraded version of its popular art gallery-style TV, The Frame.

The S95F is the successor to last year’s S95D, which was widely regarded as one of the best televisions that money could buy. The upgraded model builds on that, with the brightness of its QD-OLED panel delivering an impressive boost in brightness. There’s also an enhanced anti-reflective matte coating and a superior video processor to look forward to.

Samsung said the S95F is on sale in the U.S. now in 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch sizes, priced at $2,970, $3,297 and $4,479 respectively on Amazon.com. It will compete with models including Sony’s Bravia 8 II, which is the only other QD-OLED TV to launch this year, and LG Electronics' G5 TV, which uses a WOLED panel.

The headline feature of the S95F is its upgraded QD-OLED panel, which is able to reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits in a 10% window, and close to 400 nits in fullscreen. This makes it by far the brightest QD-OLED TV ever launched, an achievement that was enabled by the use of new electroluminescent layer materials in the stack that boost efficiency by more than 30%, the company said.

Fortunately, the increased brightness doesn’t mean higher power consumption, meaning there’s no additional heat generated by the TV.

The other major new feature is the improved matte coating that eliminates all traces of reflections on the screen, and a new processor that delivers “banding reduction” and a new Auto HDR Gamut capability to enhance the detail of shadows in brighter viewing conditions.

Samsung is also planning to launch an 83-inch version of the S95F, but anyone interested in this should be made aware that it’s not really the same TV, as it uses LG Display’s 4-stack RGB Tandem WOLED panel instead of a QD-OLED display. That’s the same panel found in the LG G5 and other premium TVs set to launch this year, such as the Panasonic Z95B and the Philips OLED950.

In addition to the S95F, Samsung also launched The Frame Pro in 65-inch, 75-inch and 85-inch sizes, priced at $2,197, $3,197 and $4,297 respectively, on Amazon.

Reimagining "The Frame"

The Frame Pro is the latest edition of the iconic The Frame series, and it’s the first one to come with Samsung’s One Connect box, which means it can connect to other devices wirelessly, eliminating the need for cables. However, if you intend to use The Frame Pro as it’s intended – as a picture frame that doubles as a TV – you’ll still need to do something to hide the power cable.

Samsung said The Frame Pro features a Mini-LED LCD display, which should increase the brightness and colour accuracy compared to older editions, though it must be noted that it’s only an edge-lit Mini-LED panel. That’s quite different from, and less effective than the Mini-LED panels found in Samsung’s higher-end Neo QLED, which utilise full-array local dimming.

Samsung has not yet said when the S95F and The Frame Pro will go on sale in the U.K., but today’s U.S. launch suggests that both models are likely to hit the shops here imminently.
