Metz's MQE7600 4K QLED TV delivers quality at a low cost

German TV brand Metz has announced a brand new QLED TV series that’s going on sale in the U.K., and it looks like a nice option for those who are restricted to a tight budget, offering 4K UHD resolution and a Dolby Atmos surround sound experience at a very competitive price point.

Metz is not a brand that immediately comes to mind when challenges to name a few TV manufacturers, and even if you’re asked to come up with one that’s based in Germany specifically, many will fail to name it. But despite this, it has been in business for more than 85 years, and it hails from a country that’s known for its premium engineering quality and efficiency, so there’s reason to believe its claims of a “realistic, immersive and spatial sound experience”.

The company made its debut in the U.K.’s TV market in 2022 when it launched the Metz MRD6000 QLED TV, and that was also a low-cost model, featuring a QLED display and the Roku OS operating system.

The Metz MQE7600ZUK TV is an upgrade on that model, and its available now at Euronics stores across the country. There are currently 50-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch models available, with a smaller 43-inch version set to arrive in April.

That 43-inch model will cost a very reasonable £379 when it goes on sale, while the 50-inch version will set you back £429 and the 55-inch model £489. For the 65-inch screen, you’ll have to stump up £659, but that’s still a decent price for what is a fairly hefty size, and it compares well with similar budget models sold by better-known brands like Hisense and TCL.

As mentioned, you’ll be getting a 4K UHD display with a 60Hz refresh rate and support for high dynamic range formats like Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. In addition, the MQE7600ZUK comes with a new matte screen coating that ensures a “glare-free” viewing experience. Adding to that, the company says it has integrated its proprietary “Eye Care” technology, which uses automatic brightness control to reduce the blue-light emissions and help protect viewer’s eyes.

The new model is powered by TiVo OS, which is a newer operating system that has ambitions to compete with the likes of Google TV and Roku OS. TiVo OS helpfully provides access to a comprehensive range of streaming apps, including Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+, as well as Freely, the U.K. streaming service owned by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, which means you’ll get a generous helping of British-made content and catch-up services.

There are personalisation options, so users can make individual profiles and see recommended content based on their own preferences, as well as voice controls. In terms of audio, the TV boasts two 10-watt speakers that support Dolby Atmos and also DTS Studio Sound to increase immersion.

Metz U.K. executive Rob Peacock said his company prides itself on delivering premium designs and outstanding technology at affordable prices.

“We have now taken the decision to offer a five-year warranty on these models, to demonstrate how much confidence we have in the quality of our products, adding even more value for our customers,” he said.
