In the latest of a flurry of pre-CES 2025 announcements, LG has debuted two new lifestyle projectors - the LG CineBeam S and the LG PF600U.
The most powerful of the two is the LG CineBeam S, which replaces the LG CineBeam Q that was launched last year. That model was one of the best new portable 4K projectors around last year, and the new version continues to support 4K and HDR pictures, while having the distinction of being much smaller. With dimensions of just 110 x 160 x 160 millimeters, it’s the smallest 4K-capable ultra-short-throw projector model the company has ever released.
According to LG, the CineBeam S can beam pictures of between 40-inches and 100-inches on any surface, which is slightly different from the 50-inch to 120-inch range of the Q model. It has a throw ratio of 0.25, which means it only needs to be set back a few inches from the wall at the most, and it delivers up to 500 lumens of brightness, matching the Q model. According to LG, the colour accuracy should be pretty special, as it covers 154% of the DCI-P3 colour space, and audio should be decent too, with a built-in Dolby Atmos speaker.
There will be plenty of content to watch too, as it’s powered by LG’s webOS smart TV platform, which means easy access to streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV+, as well as YouTube and other apps.
While the LG CineBeam S looks pretty funky with its miniscule dimensions and easy portability, the LG PF600U might be even cooler. It doubles as an LED lamp that provides mood lighting, and can also function as a Bluetooth speaker, making it a highly functional device that should suit any stylish living room.
The lamp (for that is what it really is, at least at a first glance), shoots a horizontal image beam onto any surface, delivering 1080p full HD resolution with 300 lumens of brightness at sizes ranging from 30-inches to 120-inches. Like the new CineBeam model, it comes with webOS for access to streaming apps.
As mentioned, it is indeed a lamp, and it stands at 983mm tall, with the boxy projection unit measuring 290 x 290mm. The LED light itself can be dimmed and the tone can be adjusted to get the mood just right, and the Bluetooth speaker can connect to a more extensive sound system if desired.
We’re not surprised by the LG PF600U, as LG is well known for coming up with lots of quirky lifestyle electrical goods. In recent years it has unveiled products like the portable and military-grade TV-in-a-suitcase, the StanByMe Go, a discotheque-style refrigerator featuring a transparent OLED display, a rollable OLED TV and various other bizarre concepts.
The LG PF600U may not be the best in terms of picture quality, but it’s a nice addition to LG’s lineup of wacky products, combining various functions. The company is clearly determined to be a trendsetter, shaping how homes of the future will look.
As for the LG CineBeam S, it’s clearly going to be a contender as one of the most powerful portable projectors to launch in 2025. With any luck, we’ll learn more about both of these new products next week at CES.
