LG Electronics to expand cloud gaming to more markets and devices

LG Electronics says its Gaming Portal, which is the company’s take on Samsung’s Gaming Hub, is being expanded to more markets and additional screens.

The service, which provides access to game streaming platforms, is currently available on LG smart TVs running the webOS 23 operating system or later, in 19 countries.

Through the Gaming Portal, users in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the U.K. and U.S. can access video game streaming apps including Nvidia GeForce Now, Xbox, Amazon Luna and Blacknut. The Xbox service was a recent addition, announced at CES 2025 last month.

It will soon be launching in additional territories beyond that list of countries, but LG did not say which new countries will be getting it.

In addition, it’s planning to make the Gaming Portal accessible on more devices, including its newest LG Smart Monitors and StanbyME lifestyle televisions. The service will become available on the new devices by the second quarter, LG said, providing more users with “seamless access” to both popular and new video game titles.

LG launched the Gaming Portal early last year as a response to Samsung’s popular Gaming Hub, which has bundled the best video game streaming apps since early 2022.

Some of the games available in the Gaming Portal can be played using LG’s provided Magic Remote, but most of them require a Bluetooth game controller, which must be purchased separately.

Buying the required controller might be a hassle, but it’s much more affordable than splashing out on a brand new gaming console such as the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. That said, you’ll also need to pay for a subscription to each cloud gaming service you want to use, so the costs do add up over time.

Each of the services provides a curated list of games, but there are many top titles available on the Xbox and PS5 that aren’t available through these services, so gamers should be aware of this.

The Xbox streaming app was previously exclusive to Samsung smart TVs only, but LG will become the second brand to offer it through its various displays. The other apps can be played through different TV platforms, such as Google TV and Fire TV.
