LG Display brings Primary RGB Tandem OLED to monitors

LG Display has announced the first Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel specifically for monitors, after unveiling numerous TV-sized displays earlier this year.

The company said it’s upgrading its OLED monitor lineup to include a new 27-inch panel that’s based on the latest generation of its technology, which we first saw at CES 2025 in January.

When we first saw LG’s newest OLED televisions at that event, the company made lots of impressive claims, saying that the Primary RGB Tandem tech improves energy efficiency by 20% compared to last year’s MLA OLED panels, while boosting brightness and colour accuracy too.

The Primary RGB Tandem is the fourth generation of OLED, and it’s the first to use a novel 4-stack layer. HDTVTest's Vincent Teoh explains the technology in more detail in this video:

LG Display said it will launch its first Primary RGB Tandem OLED monitor panel later this year, touting a single 27-inch size, but it hasn’t said what brands are expected to use it. Of course, it’s almost a given that LG Electronics will produce such a monitor, and other brands that traditionally use its OLED panels, such as Asus and MSI, will likely do so as well.

As per the specifications LG Display provided to FlatPanels HD, the 27-inch Primary RGB Tandem monitor will have a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and deliver 1,500 nits of peak brightness in a small 1.5% window, rising to 335 nits at full-screen. That compares well with the existing 27-inch MLA OLED monitor panel, which delivers luminance of 800 nits in a 10% window.

As an added benefit, the panel supports dual refresh rates, meaning it can run at either 240Hz at 1440p resolution, or 480Hz at half the resolution.

LG Display also promises improvements in colour, though it hasn’t elaborated on what this actually means.

The company told FlatPanels HD that it will “gradually apply” the Primary RGB Tandem technology to its lineup of OLED monitor panels, so we’re hopeful that we’ll see additional sizes launched later this year.
