LG Electronics is making good on its promise to provide much longer term support to those who’ve bought older OLED televisions, introducing webOS 24 on more of its 2022 models.
The latest version of LG’s television software, webOS 24 first arrived on its 2024 models, such as the LG G4, C4 and B4, and then it came to its 2023 models, like the G3 and C3, in October.
Now, webOS 24 is coming to models such as the LG G2 and C2, as well as its luxury lifestyle television, the LG Objet Collection Posé.
The latest version of the software is a worthy update for those TVs, streamlining the user interface with a dynamic Quick Cards system that allows users quicker access to their favourite apps and settings, as well as a “Top Picks For You” content rail that offers selected content based on your viewing preferences and history.
Other updates include support for Google Chromecast, so you can more easily stream content from an Android phone or tablet to the TV, and an upgrade to Filmmaker Mode. It now supports Dolby Vision, whereas previously that mode, which eliminates processing to show content as its creator intended, could only support SDR and HDR10 content.
LG says it’s rolling out webOS 24 to its 2022 OLED TVs in a staggered way so as to not overwhelm its servers, but if you haven’t received it yet and don’t want to wait, it’s possible to download the update manually. You can do so via the TV’s settings via the support and system update menus. Alternatively, you can go to LG’s website and look for firmware update 23.20.56, then follow the instructions. If you’d rather not fiddle around like that, you’ll probably receive it in a couple of weeks anyway, LG says.
The company is starting with the LG G2 and C2 models, and will then focus on its B2 OLED TVs and also some of its QNED LCD models.
The update will be the first of many, with the company having promised to deliver webOS 25 in 2026, followed by webOS 26 in 2027. So if you own a 2022 LG OLED TV, you’ll be able to enjoy the best new software features for some time to come.
