Hisense is updating its popular Laser Cinema projector range with a brand new ultra-short throw model that’s set to nip the problem of shadowplay in the bud once and for all.
The new Hisense PL2 is a UST projector that features an adjustable projection size, making it possible for users to throw up an image of anywhere between 80-inches and 150-inches when it’s placed just a couple of feet from the surface you intend to use as a screen. It’s available to buy in the U.S. right now, with availability in Europe in the coming weeks.
UST projectors help to solve the problem that occurs when people walk into front of the image, casting a shadow onto the big-screen action, causing you to lose sight of what’s going on.
The maximum image size notably trumps the Hisense PL1 UST projector model, which is the successor to the PL2 and maxed out at just 120-inches. It can be achieved by placing the PL2 just 17.99 inches away from the projection surface, thanks to its impressive throw ratio of 0.221.
The images should be crisp and clear too, as the Hisense PL2 delivers brightness of up to 2,700 ANSI lumens, according to Hisense, thanks to its integrated X-Fusion laser engine.
In terms of the visuals, these are cranked up to 4K resolution at 60Hz, with AI-powered content enhancement features built in for upscaling standard HD content. According to Hisense, the PL2 Laser Cinema covers 85% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, and its contrast ratio extends to 3,000,000:1, with support for Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG.
Hisense also highlights the PL2’s chops as a gaming machine, pointing out that a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports that support Auto Low-Latency Mode, which helps to optimise the picture to ensure smooth graphics and judder-free gameplay.
In terms of connectivity, there’s 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1, and the Google TV operating system means that apps like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube are pre-installed and ready to go. Chromecast and AirPlay 2 are also supported, giving yet more options for content through screen sharing. The projector is also compatible with Control4 and Apple HomeKit smart home setups. Ethernet LAN plus USB 2.0 and 3.0 complete the connectivity options
Last but not least there’s a pair of integrated 15-watt speakers that provide a total output of 30-watts of Dolby Atmos sound, with HDMI 2.0 audio return and analog ports for those who want to use external speakers.
As mentioned, the Hisense PL2 is already on sale in the U.S. priced at $2.499 (approx. £1,927).
