Disney+ streaming promition offers access for just £1.99/month

Streaming giant Disney+ has announced a red hot promotion that’s aimed at both new and returning subscribers to its platform. It’s offering users the chance to subscribe for just £1.99 a month for the first three months if they sign up for a total of 12 months.

The offer is specifically for the Disney+ Standard with Ads package, and it doesn’t support 4K content at all, so it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Still, it’s a pretty big saving considering that the regular plans cost £4.99 each month, but bear in mind that if you want to take advantage of the offer, it only runs from now until September 28.

The deal is clearly aimed at those who are intrigued by what Disney+ has to offer, and it has plenty of visual delights planned for the coming months, with titles like In Vogue: The 90s (set to launch Sept. 13), Marvel’s Agatha All Along (Sept. 19), Lost (Sept. 22), Desperate Housewives (Oct. 3) and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place (Oct. 30).

There are some interesting recent additions to Disney+’s library that are already available to watch, including all three seasons of The Bear, and Kinds of Kindness, a new movie starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. Of course, users will also get access to various programs from Disney itself, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.

The offer is not exclusive to the U.K., as Disney is offering a similar deal for new subscribers in Europe and the U.S., who’ll be able to access its Standard with Ads package for €2 and $2, respectively, for the next three months.

Of course, it’s worth pointing out that the offer comes ahead of a planned price hike in the U.S. Starting in mid-October, Disney+ will increase the cost of Standard with Ads from $8 per month to $10 per month, while Standard (with no ads) will increase from $14 to $16 per month, and the annual ad-free plan will rise from $140 to $160 per month.

The company has not mentioned any price hikes in Europe or the U.K., but historically, most streaming providers do increase prices in every region at the same time, albeit with a delay in some markets. So don’t be surprised if Disney+ announces an increase in its subscription fees in other markets soon.

Disney+ is trying to justify the increased prices with the inclusion of its new “continuous playlists”, which are basically just a fancy way of saying new TV channels that continually stream programming from the platform. So you can only tune into the channel and watch whatever’s showing, without selecting any specific show or movie.

"Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+," said Alisa Bowen, President of Disney+. "Whether it's news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest."

The company has already added ABC News Live and a channel that’s dedicated to showing preschool content, mostly Disney cartoons, and there are more on the way, including “Seasonal Content”, “Epic Stories”, “Throwbacks” and “Real Life”.
