TCL launches another affordable Android telly, the P615K

Christmas shoppers looking for an affordable television to stuff into someone's stocking might be interested in TCL’s latest Android TV range, callled the TCL P615K.

The new range offers a slim frame design that aims to fit right into the interior décor of any modern living room, together with 4K resolution and smarts such as built-in Google Assistant and Chromecast.

TCL has of course made quite a name for itself with its high quality screens that don’t break the bank, and the P615K range keeps up with appearances. The models are part of TCL’s wider P-Series lineup of Android TVs that were first announced in September. They're one step down from the TCL P715K televisions that went on sale in September.

The P615K lineup is available in five different sizes at the following price points: 43-inch (£329), 50-inch (£369), 55-inch (£429), 65-inch (£599), and 75-inch (£899).

Budget buyers will likely be interested in the presence of Android TV and all of the capabilities that brings, including popular apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, together with dozens of games.

Other features such as the aforementioned Google Assistant and Google Home ensure the P615K TV can be controlled with voice commands or through compatible devices such as Android smartphones and the Google Home Mini.

The TV delivers content in 4K High Dynamic Range where the streaming source allows it, thanks to its support for HDR10. Alas, it doesn’t support the superior Dolby Vision or HDR10+ formats, but that’s to be expected with lower cost TVs. Other features include Picture in Picture and Freeview Play’s 7-day catch up.

Standard Dynamic Range and HDR content can be upscaled to something closer to 4K resolution thanks to the Smart HDR engine that’s fitted onboard. Meanwhile the smart AI and HDR scene identification capabilities help to reveal more detail in the shadows of darker scenes and improve the contrast ratio in brighter scenes, so as to make objects stand out more from the background. This is partly enabled by a Micro Pro Dimming feature that analyzes and adjust the image in 100 separate zones, TCL said.

The sound experience is taken care of with Dolby Audio, which provides what TCL calls a “clear, high quality surround sound experience” that adapts to suit different content such as live sports, movies, TV shows and concerts.

Connectivity options are quite reasonable, with three HDMI slots, including one that supports HDMI ARC, plus two USB ports and a single optical input.

TCL said the P615K Android TVs are available to buy now at Amazon and Hughes.
