Philips to sell its TVs in more Currys PC World stores

If you’re in the market for a new OLED television with some cool lighting effects, you could do a lot worse than pop down to your nearest Currys PC World store to take a gander at some of its latest offerings.

That’s because TP Vision says it’s expanding its partnership with Currys PC World in order to sell more Philips TVs in more of the retailer’s U.K. stores.

TP Vision has partnered with Currys PC World since October 2018. Philips TVs first went on sale that year in the Currys World PC online store, before appearing in its physical stores in October 2019 as part of a trial offering.

The success of that trial has prompted TP Vision to expand its roll-out of Philips TVs into more Currys World PC stores, and its televisions are now being sold at 219 locations across the U.K., it said.

As part of the extended partnership, Currys World PC has agreed to give more prominence to Philips TVs in its stores and will expand the number of its instore displays from just five to 25, with new sites in Birmingham, Croydon, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oxford, Southampton and Staples Corner. These “five key locations” will have enough wall space to demonstrate at least five different 65-inch Philips TVs, which will allow the company to show off its latest OLED displays and unique Ambilight mood lighting technology to the best effect.

Shoppers will be able to have a close-up look at some of Philips’ latest OLED TVs, including its new OLED804, OLED805 and OLED+934 models, and from November, its new flagship OLED+935 TV, which incorporates a soundbar designed by Bowers & Wilkins, and will also be available in a smaller 48-inch size.

‘While 2020 has been an unbelievable challenging year for business, and everyone personally, our partnership with Currys PC World has continually delivered good news and sales success for both companies,” said Philips TV & Sound’s Nordic and U.K. director Henrik Kyhl. “The partnership plays a key role in our strategy of returning Philips to its place as a major TV brand in the UK.”
