TP Vision, the company responsible for the development and marketing of Philips TV in Europe, has sent word that its midrange 6000 and 7000 series have now gone on sale in the UK. Of most interest to our readers should be the new Philips 7303 which will be available in 50-inch and 55-inch sizes in the United Kingdom.

The Philips 7303 will feature a VA-type LCD panel which is known for delivering deep blacks by LED LCD standards, although its viewing angles won't be as wide as IPS panels, let alone self-emissive OLEDs. Even more impressive is the inclusion of P5 processor, the same video processing engine found on the critically-acclaimed Philips 9002 OLED television.

Being a Philips TV, Ambilight goodness is present on the 7303 series too, and it's the three-sided variant with the option to connect to Philips Hue bulbs for further immersion. Other features include a dark silver premium finish, 20w DTS HD Premium sound, 16Gb quad-core processor with Android TV platform, as well as Google Assistant support following a firmware update in the second half of 2018.

The 55in Philips 55PUS7303/12 will be available to buy from select UK retailers at an extremely competitive price of £799.

We also enquired about the availability of the anticipated Philips 873 and 973 OLED TVs, and a spokesperson said, "The 873 & 973 were being delayed by UK approval so a decision was made not to take the sets in the UK, and instead focus on making sure the new OLED sets due to be launched at the Berlin IFA will be available in the UK in September - at the same time as the rest of Europe".
