The update means that Sky Glass TVs now have access to each of the four most popular streaming apps available in the U.K. today, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+.

Sky launched its Glass TVs in October. The TVs boast many premium features, with 4K QLED displays, full-array local dimming (FALD), Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support. They’re pitched by Sky as an alternative way to access Sky TV without the need to install a set-top box or satellite dish, fulfilling its long-held promise to move away from satellite to broadband.

The TVs are available in a choice of 43-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch sizes, and there are five colours to choose from - blue, green, pink, white and black.

Sky said Sky Glass TVs and also Sky Q customers will now be able to gorge themselves on all kinds of Apple content, including its multiple Emmy award-winning comedy Ted Lasso and hit TV shows such as See, Invasion and Foundation. Apple TV+ also offers access to a small but significant catalogue of movies that includes Finch, starring Tom Hanks.

Sky Glass owners can head to the Apps section in the menu and they should see the app available, ready to browse. Ultimately, Sky said users will be able to find Apple TV+ content through its voice search tools and featured in its recommended content lists.

The partnership with Apple was first announced in October, as part of a wider arrangement between Sky’s parent Comcast, NBC, Peacock and Universal Pictures. As part of the deal, Apple agreed to make Comcast’s Xfinity Stream app available on Apple TV boxes.

Sky said Apple TV device owners in the U.K. will also be able to access Sky Glass by “mid-2022” and also buy Now TV memberships via the Now app on their iPhones or iPads.

In a separate announcement, Sky said the Sky Glass TVs are getting access to the Global Player audio and music app, which enables listening to 18 of the U.K.’s most popular live radio stations, including Capital FM and Heart and Classic FM.
