TCL has announced the imminent launch of two additional super-sized LED TVs, including 85-inch and 98-inch models that will go on sale in Europe within the next couple of months.
The TCL P74 series will go on sale alongside smaller TVs such as the company’s C845 Mini-LED models and its C745 QLED range, plus the C845 and C645 Series, which both have an 85-inch option.
TCL has been committed to expanding its lineup of large-sized consumer TV ever since it launched its XL Collection of 65-inch to 98-inch models in 2021. One of its most recent additions was the 98-inch C735 QLED TV announced at last year’s IFA 2022 show.
The new P74 Series TVs are expected to pack a punch in terms of wall-filling 4K HDR, with both the 85-inch and 98-inch models boasting a wide colour gamut that covers more than a billion colours. According to TCL, the P74 TVs can reproduce 30% purer and richer colours than traditional LED models can. The TVs also support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, with the bigger of the two going up to Dolby Vision IQ.
That is not the only difference between the two models, with the larger of them clearly benefiting from the additional space that lets TCL squeeze in superior features. For instance, while both the 85-inch and 98-inch versions use the company’s new Games Master 2.0 setup, the bigger display gets the “pro” version, along with Motion Clarity Pro technology that accelerates the 120Hz refresh rate to 144Hz. Games Master 2.0 also has a Game Accelerator feature that pushes the refresh rate to 240Hz.
In addition, the 98-inch P74 comes with a built-in Onkyo 2.1 speaker setup that throws in a subwoofer for “enhanced bass dynamics”. It also carries Low Blue Light and Flicker Free performance certification from TÜV Rheinland, which the smaller display doesn’t have.
In terms of similarities, the 85-inch and 98-inch models both have HDMI 2.1 slots that support variable refresh rates, Auto Low-Latency Mode and other advanced features. Under the hood, both TVs sport TCL’s new AIPQ Engine 3.0 processor chip.
TCL describes the two TVs as having a “functional, elegant and bezel-less” design and said they’ll both be running Google TV, with support for voice commands through Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
TCL said the 85-inch P745 will hit the shops in Europe in August, with the 98-inch model to arrive one month later. Prices have not been confirmed , but given it’s TCL, it’s likely they’ll be relatively affordable compared to alternatives such as Samsung Electronics’ recently announced 98-inch QLED Q80C TV.
