Sony has just announced U.K. pricing details for its first batch of LCD TVs for 2020, with a range of new models offering features such as 4K resolution, Android TV and support for Apple’s AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. 

The new sets include two new Series 8 models, namely the Sony XH80 (pictured) and the Sony XH81, which are basically identical in terms of what’s under the hood, but with different body designs. 

The XH80 is available in sizes ranging from 43-inches all the way up to 85-inches, while the XH81 maxes out at just 65-inches. Both TVs run the Android TV operating system, which provides access to tons of apps and games through the Google Play store. They also come with Chromecast built-in, so there’s no need to buy a separate dongle if that’s a must-have feature. 

The XH80 and XH81 both offer 4K resolution, and feature either edge or direct lit LEDs, depending on the screen size.

Apple fans will appreciate the inclusion of support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. With AirPlay 2, it’s possible to push music, videos and images from an iPhone, iPad or Apple Mac wirelessly to the TV. As for HomeKit, this is a connected home platform that enables voice commands for the TV via an iPhone or with Siri. The Apple TV app, which brings access to Apple TV+, the company’s new streaming service, will be made available on Sony TVs later in the year. 

There’s also a third model available, called the Sony X70. This is a cheaper range than the above that offers 4K resolution but not the Android TV platform. Instead of Android it runs on a Linux-based platform, but users will still be able to access essential apps such as Netflix and YouTube.

Sony said the new TVs are available in the U.K. from today. There’s still no word on when Sony’s higher-end models for 2020, such as the ZH8 8K LCD TV and A8, A85 and A9 Master Series 4K OLED TVs, will be released.
