Sky Cinema subscribers will soon be able to access hundreds of hours of new content thanks to a deal the company has inked with Studiocanal.

The deal also brings new movie releases and classic library titles to NOW TV, the Sky-owned video streaming app that provides contract-free access to most of Sky’s premium channels, including entertainment, movies and sports.

Studiocanal is a European leader in the production, distribution and international sales of numerous feature films and TV series. Some of the top titles it’s set to launch in 2021 include the British drama Supernova starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci, romantic drama The Last Letter From Your Lover (pictured) and the Karen Gillan female action thriller Gunpowder Milkshake. All of those titles will be available to watch on Sky Cinema and NOW TV shortly after their theatrical releases, Sky said.

Some of the classic movies in Studiocanal’s catalogue that will appear on Sky Cinema and NOW TV includin Paddington, Paddington 2, A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, The Imitation Game and The Hurt Locker.

The partnership between Sky and Studiocanal comes after the two companies collaborated on Sky Originals The Secret Garden, which is based on the classic children’s novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and Blithe Spirit, which is a reimagining of Noel Coward’s classic comedy. The companies added that they’re working on more joint productions in future, but didn’t provide any hints as to what they might be or when they might be released.

Sky’s subsidiary, Sky Deutschland, announced a similar deal with Studiocanal in December.

Sky has been working hard to bring more content to its platforms. Last year it agreed a deal with Amazon to bring Amazon Prime Video content to Sky and NOW TV, and it also has deals in place that enable its customers to access content from Netflix, Disney+, Warner Media, Showtime, Discovery, Fox and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

“We are delighted to be bringing our exciting upcoming line up of films and the glories of the Studiocanal catalogue to the fantastic and ever evolving Sky platform,” said Studiocanal UK CEO Alex Hamilton. “We look forward to a great collaboration together over the coming months and beyond.”
