Roku has announced it’s collaborating with Currys in the U.K. to launch a new line of Logik-branded TVs that will go on sale later in the year.
The partnership is another big push by Roku to expand its presence in the U.K., bringing its number of partnering TV brands in the country to 11, following the announcement of a similar deal with JVC last year, and the launch of a range of Sharp TVs with the Roku OS before that. Logik is Currys’ own TV brand that’s sold exclusively in its stores, and they will soon integrate the Roku operating system.
Roku didn’t reveal too many specific details about the upcoming TVs, but what we do know is that there will be two different series. The first is a lineup of smaller and cheaper 2K HD and Full HD TV sets with sizes ranging from 32-inches to 40-inches, while the second will be a selection of 4K UHD models in bigger sizes ranging from 43-inches to a maximum of 50-inches. The company said all of the new Logik models will support HDR10, but only the 4K variants will have Dolby Vision on board.
One benefit of buying a new Logik Roku TV is that they’ll provide access to tons of live TV content through an integrated Freeview tuner, as well as the usual array of streaming and on-demand services. Users will come across the familiar, easy-to-navigate Roku TV interface, which comes with a customisable home screen and Roku’s powerful search capabilities, as well as voice control functionality.
Roku’s U.K. country manager Richard Halton said the company has already established a strong presence in the nation thanks to its seamless Smart TV experience, which makes it easier and faster for consumers to find the content they love. “Through our partnership with Currys, more customers can select from a range of smart TVs with the Roku OS built-in,” he explained. “And with some exciting sporting events in the calendar this year, now is the perfect time to upgrade your TV setup.”
Roku said the first new Logik Roku TVs are expected to go on sale before the end of the month, so it won’t be long until we know exactly what they’re capable of. The company said the new TVs will be priced from £149, which is assumed to be referring to the cheaper 32-inch HD model, but it’s not clear how the pricing will scale up with the bigger and more capable models. That said, we fully expect them to be a decent budget option that’s likely to beat more mainstream brands in terms of price.
