Philips has announced the launch of a trio of new premium TVs, including two OLED models and a Mini-LED display, each of which boasts built-in Bowers & Wilkins sound systems, enhanced AI picture processing and a more beautiful Ambilight experience. 

The company’s flagship product is the OLED+937 (above), which will be available in a choice of 65-inch and 77-inch sizes and is powered by Philip’s 6th Gen P5 AI Intelligent Dual Engine picture processing chip. The TV is fitted with an OLED EX panel with a dedicated heatsink that, according to the company, will take peak brightness up to 1,300 nits. 

There’s a flurry of gaming features too, with G-Sync, Freesync and Variable Refresh Rates all onboard, along with a VRR Shadow Enhancer mode that promises to optimise the panel’s refresh rate to provide a better gaming experience. 

The Bowers & Wilkins speaker system is said to consist of dedicated side-firing speakers and comes with 95 watts of power, which Philips said will result in true 5.1.2 channel surround performance. The speakers are arranged in soundbar-like fashion and form the base of the TV. 

Just below the OLED+937 is the Philips OLED+907 (below), which is available in 55-inch and 65-inch options. Like the flagship OLED+937, this model also uses an OLED EX panel and has a dedicated heatsink to reach the same level of brightness. 

The chip is the same too, with the main difference being that the sound system is a little scaled back at just 80 watts and a 3.1.2 channel setup. Even so, it still has front-firing speakers and they still provide left and right separation to create what Philips says is a “wide soundstage” that provides clear dialogue, backed by clear and accurate bass from the rear-mounted subwoofer. 

The Philips OLED+907 supports gaming features including G-Sync, Freesync and 4K at 120Hz, which suggests that the TV will include HDMI 2.1 ports. That would mean VRR is likely supported too. There will also be a game bar that provides quick access to all of those gaming settings, and also a monitor mode for 4K/120Hz output,, the company confirmed. 

As for the PML9507, this is a Mini-LED TV that’s quite a bit different from the two OLED models. In addition to the different display tech, it’s available in 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch options. It uses the same 6th Gen P5 AI chip, has a 120Hz VA panel, hits a maximum brightness of 1,500 nits, but drops the B&W speaker system and is instead powered by a 2.1 channel, 70-watt system. However, when paired with an external sound system, the TV is able to operate as a dedicated centre channel. 

Although the PML9507 has many of the gaming features listed above, it appears to lack G-Sync support. 

Philips said all three of the new TVs will sport its iconic Ambilight mood lighting system, and all three will have upgrades. There’s a new Aurora mode that combines a set of preloaded images and videos with the Ambilight system to create “an attractive background multimedia art show” when the TV is not being used to watch something. 

The OLED+937 is said to be the first Philips TV to boast individual control of each LED in the Ambilight system, offering a wider range of colours and a more precise match for what’s happening on screen. 

It’s not immediately clear when the TVs will go on sale, nor do we know of any prices just yet.
