German TV brand Loewe has announced a new 48-inch 4K OLED television in its bild v series to sit alongside its larger 55-inch and 65-inch models.

The new arrival is officially known as the Loewe bild v.48 and it’s billed as a compact offering for those looking for a “smaller-screened monitor with an affinity for design, and without compromising on quality,” the company says.

The TV is every bit as good as the larger bild v offerings, with the same 4K OLED panel backed by an SL5 chassis, with a dual channel and dual multi-tuner and powered by the company’s SX8 Quad Core processor. In addition, the bild v.48 comes with HDR10 and HLG support and packs a stereo soundbar with a closed bass reflex box and six drivers, delivering a combined audio output of 80 watts. The TV also comes with Loewe’s Mimi Sound Personalisation functionality that enables users to adjust the sound output for their own ear.

Being a Loewe television, the bild v.48 is as much about style as it is about substance. The company rightly boasts of an “elegant design classic that enhances every living space” - a fitting description for its smooth and minimalist finish. The TV also features a rotatable stand v, with the option to upgrade to various other stand designs, such as the chrome plated floor stand c.

It’s not immediately clear if the Loewe bild v series is meant to be a step up from the bild i series that was launched last year. However, there’s no mention of the more advanced LG “EVO” panel that provides higher brightness. Support for premium HDR and sound formats, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, also appears to be missing. Because of this, the Loewe v.48 might be better pitched as an upgrade to Loewe’s smaller bild c LED TVs, which were also launched last year.

Loewe said the bild v.48 is available now in the U.K. priced at £2,299. That makes it much more expensive than comparable 48-inch OLED models from the likes of LG Electronics or Sony. For instance, the 48-inch LG C2 carries a price tag of just £1,399, while the 48-inch Sony A90K retails for £1,799.

That said, Loewe has always positioned its TVs as luxury models, with the higher price tag accounting for its style, elegance and attention to detail as much as the OLED performance. So for those who want a TV that looks good even when switched off, the Loewe bild.48 might be just the ticket.
