LG Electronics has announced U.K. availability and pricing for its B4 OLED TV, which is significantly cheaper than the LG C4 OLED. By sacrificing a few of the more advanced features found on the C4, consumers can save a reasonable amount of cash, hence the B4’s predecessors, such as the LG B3 and LG B2, have been some of the company’s most popular sets in the past. 

At present, LG said the LG B4 is available in three sizes – 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch models - though there is a smaller, 48-inch version that’s still in the works. LG has never released a 48-inch model in its B series OLED TVs before, which may explain why that smaller size’s availability is delayed. 

With regards to cost, LG said the 55-inch model is retailing for £1,499, with the 65-inch model priced at £2,299 and the 77-inch version set to cost £3,300. That makes the B-series OLED TVs about £200 cheaper than the C series models, on average. 

Some consumers might be thinking that an additional £200 is not that much more to pay out to get the more premium television, but for many others, that could still represent a significant saving, especially as the OLED B4 comes with quite a few upgrades that bring it somewhat closer to parity with the C4. 

For instance, the LG B4 OLED now comes with four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports this year, which is a big deal for anyone who’s looking to buy an OLED TV primarily for console or PC gaming. 

On the other hand, picture purists will note that the LG C4 has received some upgrades of its own. It’s powered by LG’s more advanced Alpha 9 processor, which is new this year, and far more capable than the Alpha 8 chip found in the B4 OLED models. In addition, the C4 boasts a 144Hz refresh rate, whereas the B4 maxes out at 120Hz. While that won’t matter to console gamers and those who just want to watch TV, it’s a consideration for PC gamers whose machines do support higher refresh rates. 

LG’s 2024 OLED TV lineup now consists of the B4, C4 and flagship G4, and later in the year a fourth model – the LG M4 OLED – will become available. The M4 is essentially the same as the G4, with the difference being that it comes with a fancy wireless box that contains all of the HDMI and other inputs, enabling a less cluttered living room free of cables strewn across the floor or nailed into the wall. 

Also this year, LG plans to launch its very first transparent OLED in various regions of the world, including the U.K.
