LG is making three new additions to its range of TV soundbars ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month. The company said the soundbars, built in collaboration with Meridian Audio, deliver not only improvements in sound quality but also come with support for Dolby Atmos and Google Assistant. 

LG said the SL10YG, SL9YG and SL8YG soundbars feature Meridian’s latest Bass & Space technology in order to deliver “strong, multi-dimensional sound that fills every corner of the room”. 

The soundbars will “envelop listeners in rich, uncompromising sound in a more lifelike way to boost listeners’ sense of immersion,” the company added. 

Meridian’s Upmix technology is also integrated with the new soundbars. Upmix is said to improve the “sound field” in order to increase immersion and “highlight the clarity of vocals and lead instruments”. 

Better yet, the soundbars also support Dolby Atomos and DTS:X, which means they can provide surround sound from multiple directions and depths, the company said. To do this, the soundbars come with an integrated gyroscope sensor that’s able to determine the product’s position and adjust the sound direction accordingly to ensure an optimal listening experience. 

And with digital assistants being all the rage these days, the soundbars also come with voice recognition powered by Google Assistant. What this means is that users can control LG’s soundbars using simple voice commands. They can also ask general questions such as “Hey Google, what song is playing?” and get an immediate answer. 

The soundbars are said to be compatible with other Google Assistant-enabled devices.

LG’s new soundbars will be on display at CES 2019 next month but it’s not clear when they’ll go on sale.
