LG Electronics is targeting creative professionals ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show next month with its latest 27-inch and 32-inch BP95E UltraFine OLED Pro monitors, which feature 4K resolution, 99% DCI-P3, self-calibration tools and a hood.
The monitors are aimed at creatives and designed to enable “sheer visual precision” combined with “stunning self-lit picture quality and reliable calibration”, explained LG Electronics Business Solutions SVP and head of IT Seo Young-jae.
The advantage of using an OLED display is that they provide independent pixel control, ensuring the best possible colour fidelity and contrast, LG assures us. Moreover, because the displays don’t require any backlights, they’re free of that distracting “halo effect”, also called “blooming” seen on LCD displays.
The two BP95E UltraFine OLED Pro monitors also cover 99% of the AdobeRGB colour spectrum and come with DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification, which means a peak brightness of around 400 nits. They also boast 1 millisecond response times and a 60Hz refresh rate. Connectivity includes HDMI, USB and DisplayPort inputs.
It’s notable of course that LG doesn’t use OLED display panels made by LG Display. Instead, it sources them from Japan OLED, which is a joint venture between Sony and Panasonic that also supplied the panels for last year’s 27-inch and 32-inch LG EP950 OLED monitors.
This year’s pro range goes the extra yard compared to last year’s models, the LG EP950 OLED monitor. To ensure users can see the vibrant colours on screen as they’re intended to be displayed, in conditions that are optimised for productivity, the OLED Pro monitors come with detachable, self-calibration sensors and hoods. When used with the supplied LG Calibration Studio software, the self-calibration sensor will measure light emitted by the display at predetermined times, then automatically make adjustments o maintain colour accuracy and consistency. For even greater accuracy, users can attach the hood to avoid distractions from external light sources.
LG said the BP95E OLED Pro monitors will go on sale in select markets from next month, though it hasn’t yet provided any pricing details.
