Huawei has launched its first ever OLED TV, which is now available for pre-order to customers in China. 

Huawei is better known for its smartphones and telecommunications networking gear, but the company isn’t entirely new to the TV industry. Indeed, it launched its first ever TV, the 4K Huawei Vision that used quantum dot LEDs, just last year. 

The company’s first OLED TV, the Huawei Smart TV X65, is now available to pre-order on the Chinese retail website JD.com, and is priced at around £2,850. That might seem a bit pricey at first, but it’s not such a bad deal when you consider it’s a 65-inch screen we’re talking about. The TV notably supports various HDR formats and comes with a 24 megapixel ultra-wide camera for video calls. 

Specs-wise, the Huawei Smart TV X65 seems to hold its own. The TV boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and offers up to 1,000 nits peal brightness. The listing on JD.com suggests the TV will run Huawei’s Hongmeng operating system, which was introduced last year as an alternative to Android. Meanwhile the camera seems to be rather smart too, as Huawei says it will be capable of recognizing gestures so that the TV can be controlled with a wave of the hand. 

The TV will also come with 128GB of storage space. 

On the audio side, the Huawei Smart TV X65 offers a 14 speaker array with a combined output of 75 watts. Huawei says that audio can be calibrated for each room, based on the layout of the furniture and available space. 

Huawei is entering an increasingly competitive OLED TV market that’s set to be flooded with new TVs from the likes of LG, Sony, Panasonic and Philips this year. It will also compete with Samsung’s range of QLED TVs, which many say are on the same level as OLED. 

At the moment, it’s not clear if or when Huawei’s OLED TV will go on sale in the U.K.
