Hisense has become the latest big TV brand to refresh its lineup at the Consumer Electronics Show, unveiling a new range of Mini-LED TVs with superior brightness and contrast, alongside some new and improved Laser TV projectors.
The company revealed three different models, namely the Hisense U8K series, U7K series and the U6K series TVs. They’re all Mini-LED TVs, which means thousands of miniature LED backlights to improve colour and contrast. What’s more, they promise to be fairly affordable too, with Hisense saying that the cheapest U6K models will start at around £415.
While it hasn’t revealed full pricing details yet, it seems clear that Hisense is pushing to make Mini-LED technology more accessible, at a time when TV brands are clearly beginning to phase out standard LED backlights.
Hisense said the U8K and U7K TVs will both offer premium gaming features, with support for auto low-latency mode and variable refresh rates, and a 144Hz panel. Those TVs will also support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, helping to make everything stand out and feel more atmospheric. In addition, HDMI eARC is also onboard on all three of the U series TVs.
The company also revealed a new TV called ULED X, which it said represents “the ultimate goal of LED picture quality technology” as a result of more than 10 years’ worth of research and development.
ULED X is Hisense’s branding for QLED, and it will appear on the company’s upcoming UX series TVs, the company said. It didn’t showcase any specific models, however, though it said the UX TVs will be capable of achieving 2,500 nits peak brightness, have 5,000 local dimming zones and offer a contrast ratio of 150,000:1
Hisense is perhaps best appreciated for its line of Laser TVs, or Ultra-Short Throw projectors, and the company reiterated its belief that these models could become “the future of television” at its press conference.
This year’s entry-level model is the L5H Laser TV, and is perfectly suited to become the centrepiece of anybody’s home cinema setup, the company said. It also announced a premium model called the L9H Laser TV, which is powered by a TriChroma triple-laser light engine.
Hisense didn’t reveal pricing for these either, and it didn’t say when they might be expected to go on sale. Be mindful that Hisense is one of those brands that likes to launch different models in different markets, so it's not clear which ones will go on sale in the U.K.
