TCL has announced a couple of new, affordable TV ranges to add to its already extensive lineup. The new models, the TCL P638K and the TCL C645K series TVs, can be bought online through Argos now, with sizes ranging from 43-inches all the way up to 75-inches.

The TCL P638K is the more affordable of the two. It’s a mid-range 4K HDR TV that combines HDR10 and 60Hz motion clarity to provide “detailed and smooth picture quality”, the company assures us. It comes with multiple HDMI ports and offers a “Game Master” mode that’s said to enhance the video gaming experience by switching off all video processing to ensure smoother graphics. The feature appears to be a variant of Auto Low-Latency Mode, but lacks the variable refresh rate functionality that’s offered by the “Game Master Pro” mode found on more expensive TCL TVs.

TCL said the P638K runs Android TV, has Google Assistant baked in, and provides access to all of the video streaming applications one could ever need.

It’s a pretty basic TV, but those who want some added tricks and treats in a budget-friendly package might instead look at the TCL C645K, which delivers improved image quality thanks to its QLED display. Although it only reaches a peak brightness of 450 nits, the better display technology should ensure more vibrant colours and image quality overall. In addition to HDR10 it also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, which means better pictures with compatible content.

On the gaming side, the TCL C645K adds AMD FreeSync technology for even smoother gameplay with less artefacts at any frame rate, the company said. In addition, the C645K offers Dual Line Gate technology, or DLG, which is able to auto-adjust the on-screen content to deliver higher refresh rates and lower latency. Just as with the P638K, the C645K runs Android TV and all of the features within that platform.

TCL said the P638K is available now at Argos’s online store, with prices ranging from £269 for the 43-inch model, up to £749 for the 75-inch version. As for the C645K, the 43-inch model starts at £329, with the largest 75-inch model costing £949.
